The Owen-Withee Blackhawk Softball season is over for 2026, following a regional loss to Athens May 26. Blackhawks head coach Zach Feind shared more on how things went this season.
“This year our team goal was to be more competitive with another young team and I would say we accomplished that,” he said. “Even though our record may not have reflected this goal. Overall, we went 2-22 on the season. Last year we were 0-17 and only played 55 total innings, meaning we were getting run ruled in three innings nearly every game. This season we were very young again but competed in nearly every game we played, playing over 100 innings this season. I am proud of the steps we took as a team and as individuals and am hoping we can carry some momentum into next season.
“Our offensive standout this season was Senior Isabella Lewallen. She went 26 for 46 with 13 walks and 2 hit by pitches. For an AVG of 0.565 and an OBP of 0.672. Isabella scored 13 runs and had 18 RBIs as well. She also pitched for both of our team wins this year.
“Some notable jumps by some sophomores include Violet Poehler, Reegan Ruggles, and Neveah Baures. Each increased their batting average from last season jumping, 75, 125, and 121 points respectively from their freshman seasons.
“We lost our regional 12-0 in 5 innings against #1 seeded Athens on May 26. We played decent defense but struggled offensively only mustering two hits in the game.”
