The Thorp/Owen-Withee varsity baseball season is over for 2026, following a regional loss to Prescott May 28. The team played Loyal in back to back games May 19 and 21, followed by a game against Augusta May 26.
With the overall season record 4-13 after Prescott, Redhawks varsity head baseball coach Peter Devine shared more after scores were tallied.
“Loyal definitely came to play on Thursday and took a big lead mid-game and never looked back,” he said of the 8-5 win against Loyal May 19. “Their pitching also held us down throughout the game. On Tuesday, it was a hard battle and good team win for us over Loyal. From throwing runners out to getting runners on base to our trio of pitchers limiting a strong Loyal lineup, there were many contributions all around.” With Thursday not going as well, the Redhawks played Augusta May 26 for a loss before heading into the postseason to play Prescott at Prescott.
“The 9-0 score against Prescott might look one-sided, but it was an even 0-0 game until the 5th inning,” Devine said. “We played with a tough Prescott team until the final two innings of the game. Being a team of mostly underclassmen, the coaching staff was proud of the way they performed and grew throughout the year.
“It also gives everyone optimism for what is to come for the Redhawks program in the future. We only lose one senior this year and will only have one next year, so we will be returning the vast majority of our varsity players next year.”
