Blackhawk wrestler Leah Simenson is back from the state wrestling tournament in Madison.
Sent off with a school rally and wrestling at the Kohl Center last week, Simenson (24-12) started her day Thursday wrestling Lilliana Banks (51-1) of Menasha, scoring two points before losing by fall in 1:14.
Wrestling again at 4:30 p.m., Simenson faced Savannah Ksioszk (45-10) of Campbellsport, who won by fall in 2:55.
Blackhawks varsity wrestling coach Scott Shilts shared more on State and how things look as a team moving forward.
“As for State, I’m happy with the journey to get there,” he said. “I know that there are levels to the game and we as a team and as a coach I will present opportunities for our team to get better over the summer and fall and to also hopefully grow. We don’t graduate anyone, so we should get everyone back and also gain some new recruits. I am excited for the future, I do think other schools and people are starting to recognize us as a quality team and a tough battle not just an easy win opportunity. I have received many good messages and emails and just people coming up to me and saying how much improvement they are seeing, but another thing and probably what I am most proud of is I am always being told how polite and how good their sportsmanship is. Wins are great, but building great humans is better. Thank you to everyone who has supported our team along the way, and we will be back bigger, stronger, and more locked in next season.”
