Coached this year by Morgan Earnest and Rachel Devine, the Owen-Withee Cross Country team headed to Stanley-Boyd Thursday, September 10, Cora Simenson finishing first with a time of 14:00.24 for the middle school girls.
Coming in second for the high school girls was Evelyn Goessl with a time of 22:24.71. Other finishes from Stanley-Boyd on Thursday included Maddie Roberts with 26th place and a time of 30:39.84 for the high school girls, while Neveah Taylor finished 29th in the high school girls race with a time of 37:46.37. The middle school girls race saw Alainna Goessl finished 7th with a time of 15:10.46.
As for the boys, Malachi Frenette finished 22nd for the high school boys race with a time of 22:19.49, while Gavin Westaby finished 28th for the middle school boys with a time of 25:25.95.
Coach Devine shared thoughts after the team’s performance at Colby.
“Yesterday Owen-Withee looked really good on the course,” she said. “We don't have enough athletes to form a team per competition race so our medals come from individual runners and their individual placement for their runs. Evelyn Goessl is a freshman and has been a strong runner this season so far. She took home a second place finish at Stanley for the varsity girls. Two middle school girls have also been placing in the top 10 this season so far. Cora Simenson took first in the middle school race in Stanley and Alainna Goessl placed seventh. Many other runners have also been beating their time from previous races this season.”
Owen-Withee Cross Country now heads to Whispering Pines in Cadott on September 22.
