The Owen-Withee track team continued its strong season, with impressive finishes at a pair of meets last week.
The Blackhawk boys and girls both took second at the Father Mac Relays in Chippewa Falls Tuesday, April 29. The boys team followed that up with a third place finish Thursday, May 1 at the Hoffman Invitational in Black River Falls, while the girls team was fourth. The meet featured several larger schools.
At the Father Mac Relays, O-W was runner-up to Edgar on the boys side and Wittenberg-Birnamwood on the girls side in the eight-team meet.
Several school records fell at the meet. Colton Packowski set a new O-W record with a run of 10:27.3 in the 3200 meter. Madi Mueller set a new record in the pole vault at 8-6. Kendall Weiler set a new Blackhawk record in the 300 hurdles with a run of 48.3.
Other top finishes were:
Boys
• Mason Gay set a personal record with a run of 42.7 to win the 300 hurdles. Dominic Sherwood also had his best run of 46.7, taking third.
•The O-W team of Malachi Frenette, Talon Mueller, Steven Negron and Sam Wells took second in the 4x800 relay.
•Brandon Geldernick, Dominic Sherwood, Sam Wells and Talon Mueller took second in the 800 sprint medley relay.
•The O-W 4000 distance medley relay of Colton Paczkowski, Steven Negron, Sam Wells and Talon Mueller was second.
•Sullivan Poehler was second in the shot put with a throw of 30-10 and second in the discus with a personal best toss of 128-1.
•Mason Gay set a personal record with a jump of 5-10 to win the high jump.
•Sam Wells had his best-ever pole vault, clearing at 10-6.
Girls
•The distance medley relay team of Adelynn Petersen, Tegan Hatlestad, Madi Mueller and Leah Simonson took third in 14:26.9.
•Lydia Lobacz was second in shot put at 29-9.
•Jozlin Sevareid had a personal best in the high jump, clearing 4-6.
Black River Falls meet
At the Hoffmann Invitational, the O-W boys finished behind New Lisbon and Neillsville in the 10-team meet. Finishing ahead of the Blackhawk girls were Westby, Neillsville and Eleva-Strum.
Boys highlights
•Brandon Geldernick had a personal record time of 11.44 to win the 100.
•Mason Gay won the 800 in 2:00.27, his best time.
•Colton Paczkowski set a new school record in the 1600, finishing in 4:44.15.
•The 4x400 relay team of Mason Gay, Colton Paczkowski, Dominic Sherwood and Brandon Geldernick won in 3:28.62, more than 15 seconds ahead of the second place runners.
Girls highlights
•Kendall Weiler won the 300 meter hurdles in 52.19.
•The 4x200 team of Cassidy Graski, Jozlin Sevareid, Kendall Weiler and Kayla Rasmussen took first in 1:52.78.
