For those of you who don’t already know, I have moved to Gilman. I seem to float back and forth. Raised in Withee, moved to Gilman, then to Owen, back to Withee, and now back to Gilman. All I can say is moving is hard work. I am sure anyone who has done it knows what I am talking about. Thank God for family that is willing to help.
It is even harder each time you have to downsize. What do you give up and what do you absolutely have to have? Right now, I have my books, my cats, and a place to sleep. Other than that, I am surrounded by furniture and boxes. I got rid of some stuff and I think I will probably have to get rid of more. But, hopefully in the weeks to come, it will figure itself out and my stress levels will go down.
My reason for moving has nothing to do with a lack of love for my home area, Owen-Withee. It had to do with fly by night people buying the apartment building I lived in and raising the rent $250 a month. Unfortunately, I don’t think my income has ever gone up that much in a month. After struggling with it for two years, I had no choice but to move. I spent two months looking for something in the Owen-Withee area. There was nothing affordable available. Out of town places buying up property are pricing the little guy out of living in the Owen-Withee area, and many areas of Wisconsin for that matter.
Many have expressed concerns about whether I am still going to be working for the newspaper. The answer is yes, for now. But I’m not getting any younger. Things may change some and I might not be readily available to come take a picture on five minutes notice. But I still plan to be there to cover the news that is important to you, our readers. And life will go on.
