How do we watch democracy die? We might say we are witnessing it now in the United States.
One thing you need to do is create a common enemy. This is being done in regard to immigrants, mainly those from Mexico and Central America, but others have been ostracized by our president also. Many of these immigrants contribute to our economy, do the jobs none of us want to do, and pay taxes. Some of them might be bad apples, but some of us are too.
You need to ignore the courts. On rare occasions the courts do stand up for what is right. If they tell you to do something, you just go ahead and do what you want anyway, or you keep bringing the same issues back to court refusing to acknowledge that you lost. The ones actually losing are us as we have to foot the bill.
You aggravate those who used to be our allies and fraternize with tyrants. You make comments about taking over or annihilating other countries. You ban the press for saying things about you that you don’t like. And create Trump TV to fill the airwaves with propaganda. Seems like there are some communist countries that do that too. Government needs a watchdog. That is why those who wrote the Constitution guaranteed freedom of the press. It is not our job to tell you what you want to hear. It is our job to tell you what you need to hear.
Instead of doing their job, Congress rolls over and plays dead while the president destroys what it took 250 years to build. Except now some are trying to distance themselves from the president and his policies so they can hold onto their seat in Congress.
It is often said that “the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” My question is, where have all the good men gone?
