I know that many of you have heard by now that my vehicle was hit by a milk truck two weeks ago. I’m sure many out there have experienced this before and know how it goes, but it has been a new experience for me.
In my younger days, I ran in the ditch a time or two in the winter. I’ve gotten more cautious about winter driving since then. And I have hit a deer or two. You can’t live in Wisconsin and not have that happen at least once. I even had one run into me. To this day, I will say I did not hit that deer.
But I have never experienced a crash with another vehicle before. There isn’t much to say about that except looking in the rear view mirror and seeing the grill of the vehicle behind me getting bigger, my only thought was that they aren’t going to stop. I am thankful that neither I or the other driver was badly hurt. I was between the milk truck and a train, so things could have been a lot worse. My van is done for though.
I am sure for some an experience like this turns into a nightmare. But so far for me, they have admitted to being at fault and their insurance company has been fairly easy to work with. The Sheriff’s Deputy that responded to the crash was very nice. The towing company that picked up me and my van was very nice. The only thing that slowed the process down was that it was the day before a holiday and places are closed not only on Thanksgiving, but the day after. That being said, I hope never to experience something like this again.
The soreness in my body is getting better and hopefully there will be no lasting effects.
It is now time to move on to Christmas and think happy thoughts.
