New year, new nonsense. I guess if you are friends with people who think it is okay to invade other countries, e.g. Putin, that makes it okay to attack and capture the president of another country. Difference is this is not a country that borders ours, it is one quite some distance away.
There is no denying that Nicolas Maduro is not a nice guy. That doesn’t necessarily give us the right to “invade” his country. Our president keeps telling us it is about drugs, but it isn’t. He doesn’t have any trouble issuing pardons to drug kingpins. It is about money, oil, and distraction.
President Trump said, “We’re going to have our very large U.S. oil companies, the biggest anywhere in the world, go in, spend billions of dollars, fix the badly broken infrastructure, the oil infrastructure, and start making money for the country.” That raises a lot of questions. Will U.S. oil companies go into Venezuela with things in chaos? Where are the billions of dollars going to come from? What country is going to make money on that oil?
It also appeared from his comments that the vice-president, now president, of Venezuela better get in line with Trump’s agenda or she might be ousted too.
All of this was announced at about the same time the Justice Department was supposed to explain Epstein file redactions. Distraction.
The point here is that we shouldn’t be invading another country and removing their leader. That is not our job and it has never ended well for us in the past. Many times someone even worse takes charge. We also don’t need to get into a war with a South American country. Especially as there seems to be no good reason for instigating such an action and only Congress has the power to declare war. The President and his minions can try to justify this all they want as capturing a fugitive from American justice. But even that has a process. We don’t routinely go into other nations to capture people who have been indicted and fled this country. So why would we do it in this case? It appears because Trump wants the oil and he wants us thinking about things other than the Epstein files, tariffs, and prices at the grocery store.
This man has worked very hard during his presidency to make enemies of our friends. Where will it all end? We used to be a leader for the rest of the world. Now we are making enemies, isolating ourselves from the global economy, and not making the world a better place for all.
