Some people are saying it is disrespectful and wrong that some of the major networks didn’t carry President Trump’s speech last week. My question is why? Why should they give up primetime programming just so Trump can rehash things that have already been proven to be less than factual if not outright lies?
He brought up intelligence reports which he said showed that China had interfered in the election. That information was already out there that China at least thought about it. But a March 2021 report shows that they didn’t do this in 2020. He said that China had obtained millions of voter files but that information is for the most part public and you or I could access it. He also claimed that 278,000 noncitizens are registered to vote, but as usual gave no proof. The Bipartisan Policy Center has found that many of these people are citizens but records haven’t been updated. And you would think if that many people were voting illegally, somebody actually working at the polls would notice.
China is officially denying it did anything wrong. Trump also threatened media companies that didn’t air his speech. They have the right not to waste time on speeches that are political in nature. If it is information that people need to know, obviously all major media outlets should be covering it. If it is just a repeat of what has already been proven to be false, it is a waste of everyone’s time.
We can only hope this doesn’t help him pass the Save America Act. I already have to register to vote, prove where I live, and show photo ID. There is no reason to ask me to do more, especially since I was born in Wisconsin and have lived here my entire life.
Maybe it isn’t true in big cities, but in our small communities, we know the people running our elections. They are our friends and our neighbors. They are doing their jobs and haven’t done anything wrong or cheated a petty, little man out of winning an election. He needs to give it up. That election was six years ago and it is over. We need to move forward.
Trump is trying to do what he is very good at. He wants us not to believe that our election system works because then he can again claim he was cheated when his candidates don’t win in November. I am willing to honestly say that if you are a candidate and you tell me you are endorsed by Donald Trump, that is all I need to know to say you don’t have my vote.
Elections in Wisconsin work. I think that the recent withdrawal of Sara Rodriguez from her run for governor is proof. There were issues with her campaign financial reports. She probably hasn’t done anything wrong other than maybe put her trust in the wrong person, but it knocked her out of a race where she was a leading contender.
I would be happy if everyone would just listen to the candidates, know what they are voting for when they choose a person for office, and trust that everything was done above board and correctly.
