Curtiss Corner’s Quilt Club met on Monday, April 15, 2024 at 6:45pm in Curtiss Community Center. LaVerna Marcott distributed and demonstrated the final step of the Mystery Quilt Project. Jackie Robinson demonstrated how to sew and piece a chicken critter and handed out kits to each member. The final block of the month was distributed in March. All block patterns are in and final projects are due at August quilt show for display.

In May 2023 two challenge fabrics were handed out to each member. Members have one year to create a quilted project using the two fat quarters. Final Fabric Challenge projects will be judged at the May 20, 2024 meeting.

August Quilt Show is Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Curtiss Community Center. Events include quilts on display, demonstrations, craft sale, community service display and vendors. New for 2024 is a Kid’s Corner where youth are invited to display sewing projects. Theme for 2024 is Teddy Bears and Foster Care. Club members have been busy all year making quilts for the Clark County Foster Care program and is partnering with Stanley Correctional Institution’s SCOPES program to include a teddy bear or stuffed critter with each quilt. Quilts and critters will be handed over to Clark County Foster Care program at the quilt show.

Something new is starting....a monthly Sew Day where all quilters are welcome. Each month the club will host a Sew Day for members and non-members to meet at Curtiss Community Center. Next Sew Day is Saturday, June 22nd from 9am to 3pm. Text or call (262)497-4780 if you are interested or would like more details.

Monthly Tip: Pinning. Feed dogs don’t always feed layers evenly which results in one layer coming up short. A no surprises pin is the pin at the end of fabric piecing to make sure the two layers are still lined up when you get to the end. Tip from Quilt Teacher Dawn White of First Light Designs.

Meeting adjourned at 8:30pm. Next meeting is Monday, May 20th at 6:45pm.
