Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. In this writing we will focus on Jesus as our life. “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” (1 John 5:12) Jesus also said; “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.” (John 17:3) We have this in Ephesians 2:1-3. “And you hath he quickened (made alive) who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in times past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience: among whom also we all had our conversation in the lust of our flesh, fulfilling the desire of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.”

From these verses we learn that most people are not really living. Their life is a living death. “But she that lives in pleasure is dead while she lives.” (1 Timothy 5:6) Many people live for the “weekend pleasures” and they are more stressed out in the end than relaxed. We all have different ways of entertaining ourselves. Some people go to an amusement park, some take in a sports event. Some spend time in a tavern or a special eating house…and the list goes on. But the Christian who has opened his heart to Jesus and has discovered what it is to walk with Jesus learns many things about living.

Those who never come to trust in the Lord Jesus for the forgiveness of sins, live with an anxiety that calls for continual activity that keeps them distracted from the real need of their heart. Since Satan has distorted all human desire, there is a vacuum that cannot be really satisfied until Jesus is allowed or invited to come in and fill us with His life and love. In the process we are led to repentance for all our past sins and Jesus gives us a desire to love and serve Him.

Jesus our Savior came to this earth to teach us many things by the way he lived among us. We have His words and teachings in the Gospels. It is there that we learn many things about real living. It is living on a completely different level than we knew before. Jesus said; “If any man will be my disciple, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” We are generally selfish in the way we think. Selfishness causes many problems in life. When we are all wrapped up in ourselves, it is a small bundle! When Jesus moves into our heart, we begin to think about others and we begin to discover real life and joy in being a servant to others. The more selfless we become the greater will be our joy and living. I cannot explain how this works. I just know that this is the way it is and that it is a real life that is worth pursuing.

“But God who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he hath loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved)…Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:4-5, 9,10. To live doing the good works that we were created for, that is real living.
