Young and old alike turned out to Lublin Days last weekend, as the now 109-year-old incorporated community on County Highway F took time to celebrate and have summer fun.

Kicking off Friday evening in the central ballfield, the 2024 Lublin Days Ball Tournament saw Hammer Time fall to the Sons of the American Legion while Baehr Electric fell to the American Legion.

Come Saturday morning a steak and egg breakfast at Post 547 with help from the Legion Auxiliary gave energy to start the day, while a nearby bucket raffle let attendees put tickets in the bucket corresponding to the basket of their choice. Out on the ballfield, it was soon time for the tournament to begin.

Starting things off at 9 a.m. Saturday, the Young Guns took on Klear Water while Burly’s took on JR Storage at 10 a.m.

Rock Solid Concrete followed next by taking on the Sons of the American Legion at 11 a.m., with noon seeing Hammer Time meet Baehr Electric in the first of the consolation bracket matches.

Coming out of morning competition Saturday JR Storage took on the Young Guns in the Consolation bracket at 1 p.m., while Baehr Electric advanced to take on Rock Solid at 2 p.m. Come 3 p.m. Saturday the American Legion took on Klear Water on the regular bracket, with Sons of the American Legion taking on Burly’s at 4 p.m.

Saturday night closed with fireworks from Connell’s Combustibles after dusk, Thorp Fire on site in case anything went wrong.

Come Sunday morning, Legion Post 547 put on a charcoal chicken dinner in the pavilion, while Holy Assumption Orthodox Church helped out with selling burgers and pierogi (already plural without the s) in the Community Park.

Returning to the ball tournament, Hammer Time defeated Klear Water at 9 a.m. while Burly’s advanced from facing Baehr Electric at 10 a.m. Burly’s went on to defeat Hammer Time in the follow-up noon game, with the Sons of American Legion advanced from facing the American Legion, leaving the top three contenders to battle it out after the parade.

Led out by American Legion Post 547, the 1 p.m. parade was shorter than previous years, but still saw several entries, including the Legion and Legion Auxiliary, La Crosse County Voiture 830 Wisconsin, VFW Post 5729 Medford, parade grand marshals Chris and Frank Wilczek, the Taylor County Sheriff, Jump River and Gilman Fire Departments, a jeep that said “Go Topless” (meaning without the roof cover), Taylor County Ambulance, Jump River Lions Club, J and A Auto Repair, Diamond Lakers 4-H Club, Kirk Law Firm, Medford Motors, Diane’s Back 40, Abate of Wisconsin, candidate Rob Summerfield and helpers, Holy Assumption Orthodox Church, Exit Realty agent Alicia Soper, and the Miller Dam Lake Association.
