Blackhawks spoil Lake Holcombe’s homecoming

The Owen-Withee Blackhawks kept their undefeated season intact with a convincing 76-0 win over the Lake Holcombe Lakers. The win guarantees the Blackhawks at least a share of the Conference Championship and moves them closer to one of the 16 coveted play-off spots.

The Blackhawks experience and athleticism was just too much for the Lakers as the Hawks scored four times in six offensive plays and a pass interception for a touchdown made it 40-0 after the first quarter. That’s where the Hawks turned it over to the JV and gave them the opportunity to again gain some great Varsity experience.

All three facets of the game contributed to the big win as the Blackhawk defense had five interceptions and a fumble recovery in addition to allowing Lake Holcombe only two yards of total offense for the game. The special teams contributed with a second half kick-off returned for a touchdown and some great field position as the kick-off team consistently pinned the Lakers inside their 25 yard line.

The Blackhawks will host Clayton this week for the battle of the Eastern and Western Conference leaders. Both teams sit atop their respective Conferences with perfect conference records. The game will have a 7:00 p.m. kick-off time. In addition to the big game, the Blackhawk Football Family will be recognizing the 25th anniversary of the 1999 State Championship Team and the 10-year anniversary of the 2014 State Championship Team. We ask that all players from those teams sign in before the game and then be recognized at halftime for your accomplishment!
