The Hands Foundation holds an open house at St. Hedwig’s

On Saturday, October 5, the Hands Foundation held an open house at St. Hedwig’s on Gorman Avenue. Visitors were allowed to explore the historic church and see some of the restoration work that has been done to date.

As part of the festivities, Darrell Marrier demonstrated how they record singers using the church’s lighting and acoustics. A video played of some of the people that have been recorded, some from the area, some from as far away as Nashville. Darrell said they are currently experimenting with where in the church to get the best sound and best lighting. The videos they do can be used by recording artists to demonstrate their work, but they will also be used to draw more performers to record their music in the church.

The four new clocks built for the steeple were on display for all to see. Once they are in place, the next step is to try again to get the stained glass windows done. Previous people who were going to do the windows dropped out of the project and they now have a student interested in giving it a try.

Deb Marrier said she would also love to see the floor sanded and refinished.

Visitors also had the opportunity to give back by donating winter clothing items for homeless veterans, including winter coats, winter boots, gloves, and long underwear. Items can be dropped off at O-W Sports & Liquor in Owen if you didn’t make it to Saturday’s event. You can also send tax deductible donations to the Hands Foundation, Scott & Deb Marrier, W6929 Broek Rd., Withee, WI 54498 or call 715-229-4456 for more information on how to help both homeless veterans and with the church restoration.
